Everyone knows Seamless as a haven for hungry workers looking for a tasty lunch delivered to their door. Seamless has a yearly “eater’s choice” award ceremony for restaurants in the NYC and DC metro areas. Users nominate and voted on their favorites in a variety of categories, and the winners were announced shortly before the celebration ceremony. We were lucky enough to cover the event in all its delicious glory.
A swanky Flatiron loft set the tone for the 2013 Seamless Craved Awards. After a quick lap to soak it all in, I dove headfirst into the food.
Joe’s Pizza, winner of the best pizza category handed me a cheese slice that would make a perfect addition to a night out on the town. Although it was relatively straight-forward, it seemed they had the cheese-sauce ratio down to a science.
I then swung around to ABA Turkish Restaurant, a nominee for Most Authentic Import. Their chicken shish over lebni was a healthy standout. I really enjoyed the homemade feel of the dairy-based lebni.
I took a trip the the Purity Vodka table to check out what this Swedish spirit sponsor had to offer. Their delicious “collins” inspired drink made me second guess the whiskey kick I’ve been on.
Blockheads Burritos (my pick for best dish of the night) served up a taco to die for. It had a huge depth of flavor, with different textures in every bite. The meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the vegetable toppings were fresh and portioned generously. I had to go back for seconds on this one.
The girls at the Chop’t salad station greeted me warmly and enthusiastically pitched the two different salads they were offering. Award show diners were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of a falafel tahini salad coming soon to NYC stores. I will definitely make a special trip to have a full one. There’s something about having your salad chopped up into smaller pieces that makes the whole experience that much better.
This year’s winner, Five Napkin Burger served up a pulled chicken taco topped with kimchi. It was a tasty treat with decidedly vinegary notes. Although I enjoyed it, I definitely look forward to trying their signature burger.
Momfuku Milk Bar, winner of Seamless’ treat category had some of the tastiest cookies I’ve ever had. Their compost cookie was rich and decadent, with interesting textures throughout. Next time I’m in their neck of the woods I’ll be sure to stop by.
As I headed out of the loft, full goodie bag in tow, I thanked the Seamless guys for hosting such an impressive event. And with all proceeds going to charity, it was a night of awesome eating for a good cause.
